Borderlands 2 updated for PC, breaks Mac multiplayer compatibility

Borderlands 2 updated for PC, breaks Mac/PC multiplay

Gearbox has updated Borderlands 2 for Windows. Unfortunately, the update breaks multiplayer compatibility with the Mac version, which is published and maintained by Aspyr Media.

We pinged Aspyr Media to find out what's going on, and here's their statement:

"The Borderlands 2 update released on June 26, 2013 for the PC will cause an out of sync [error] with the Mac version of the game. We are working tirelessly to ensure the Mac version is caught up with the PC with this new update, but please be aware that the Mac and PC versions will be out of sync for a very short time, disabling cross platform play. We hope to be back in sync as soon as possible. Any questions please contact us at http://support.aspyr.com and log a ticket for one of our agents!"

Hands-on with leaked Android 4.3 ROM for the Google edition Galaxy S4 [Updated]

Android 4.3

First glimpse of the next version of Android looks a lot like what's come before

There's a leaked Android 4.3 Jelly Bean ROM out in the wild this morning, in the form of a pre-release build for the 'Google Play edition' Galaxy S4. It's also been ported to the European LTE Galaxy S4 (GT-i9505) in the form of a custom ROM, courtesy of the original source of the leak, Samsung fansite SamMobile.

We've fired up that ROM on our European GS4 and shot a quick hands-on video, giving an early glimpse of the next version of Android. And, well, it looks an awful lot like the current version of Android, supporting earlier reports that 4.3's changes are mostly under-the-hood, rather than user-facing. That means for the most part, we're dealing with the same user experience found on the current Google Play edition GS4.

Check out our video after the break, along with a list of behind-the-scenes changes we've noticed.

Yahoo! Messenger now censors the links you share

Yahoo Messenger Big Brother censorshipWe've all thought it, but never dared think it could be true: what if Microsoft, Yahoo, and AOL actively monitor our instant messenger chats? What if mentions of 'bomb' and 'underage' are tracked and sent to law enforcement agencies? What if chat providers don't agree with the things we say, or the links we share, and filter or censor the content of our transmitted messages?

Well, it looks like our fears may actually have some basis in reality: Yahoo Messenger strips FilesTube links from instant messages. It doesn't tell either party that a URL has been removed from chat -- it just deletes it. Poof. FilesTube, in case you were wondering, is one of the largest file hosting meta search engines on the Web -- it indexes RapidShare, Megaupload, Mediafire, and many other 'cyberlocker' services.

It's fairly obvious why FilesTube links are being removed -- the Censor General at Yahoo is probably one of those perplexed primates who think all uses of BitTorrent are illegal -- but this situation poses a far more important question: is Yahoo censoring messages on the client side, or the server side. Does the messenger client itself maintain a list of 'blacklisted' words -- and if so, why are we not told that FilesTube links are banned? What other words and terms does Yahoo protect us from?
